Increasing the website performance

By optimum exploitation of the resources provided by a webserver the performance of a website can be increased considerably. It must not always be a own dedicated server. Also with inexpensive webspace a substantial number of visitors can be served without long waiting periods.

Who is not angry if – after extensive surfing on the internet – a promising link points to an interesting offer and a click on that link delivers nothing than a browser that takes a lot of time for loading the requested page, because of a slow feedback from the server? The irritation is even bigger if, after a long pass through of the results of a web search, a promising result appears whose title and brief description allows to hope that the needed information which answeres all questions, solves all problems – at least those who currently prey on one's mind –, is only a click away.

In such situations the ambitious user occasionally can swear like a sailor and wishes the nice technology to the devil. There are many reasons why a website and the components contained on it – for example images and other multimedia contents – is passing the data line so dead slowly. Beside problems with the name resolution, a bad internet binding of the visitor or web servers of shared web hosters hopelessly stuffed full of websites the bottleneck and with it the reason for the limping website performance can be caused by the site operating authority itself.

In consideration of the fact that the average homepage is not really runned down from visitors and a large part of the small and medium-sized companies represented on the internet has daily visitor figures in the 3-digited area, the assignment of a dedicated server is probably rather inappropriate. What's finally the use of a web server that delivers merely some thousand pages in 24 hours whitch employs him for some seconds while he is sleeping during the remaining hours – what nevertheless does not prevent him from using a multiple of the energy in this time which is necessary for the delivery of the requested pages. There can be no talk of an efficient use of the available resources. Also from ecological view the application of an own web server should be well considered.

However, concerning the absolutely reasonable and topically in the marketing strategies of the IT industry havily promoted server technology all around the buzzword „Green IT” it is to be marked that a server, which is not in continuous operation, is probably the environment friendliest alternative. Offers from the shared-hosting providers, where several websites are hosted on a single server and the resources of the computer are shared between these sites, in most cases are more than enough to provide a well-arranged website performance to side visitors. Besides it is more important to make sure that the homepage is well arranged and implemented effectively.

By specific optimisation the delivery of a homepage can be considerably accelerated. But not only on shared hosts a good implementation of the site is leading to a better website performance: If the visitor's figures of a website lie in areas which require the use of an own server, visitors also benefit from the performant answering of her queries. The web server is optimally exhausted in his abilities.

At this point even other articles will follow on the subject. As a small preview to the aspects which should be addressed here the listed points on the right side of the page can serve. Of course suggestions are accepted with pleasure and if necessary i let slip them in the following articles. I would be pleased about constructive remarks of every kind.
